Dee006 Thank you. The link did it. I got U3 that I was looking for. Thank you!

I was able to get this resolved with help from VMware official channels. The problem was we were using an old format label for the EULA section.

Thanks for your help.

Hello there,

- NAS in same Network like youre Esxi?

- is the NFC esxi firewall Port checked?

- are you able to resolve the name of the Esxi from where you using the vi-client?  (if not > then just use the local hosts file)

Re: VM CPU Demand metric weirdness

WallyL - Yes, power settings have been verified through the entire stack. As I mentioned on my original post, It is unlikely to be power management related as only these two VMs are affected regardless of which host they live on but the rest of the SQL VMs are not experiencing the issue.

Dee006 - Host boot from and have datastores running on XtremeIO arrays. Even if I stop SQL, which is the major consumer of resources on the VM for CPU and Disk, the CPU demand counter won't drop on the idle VM.

Missing RemoteHost Data from Get-DataStore

0
0

In the past, get-datastore 1234 |select remotehost would return the IP of the host providing the export.  Currently I get no data back.  Selecting remotepath returns the correct path; select * shows other information is fine as well.  Just remotehost has "disappeared".

RemoteHost

----------

Last I recall this working (not 100% sure of the version) was with PowerCli 6.3 and Vsphere 5.5.  Currently I'm using the below Vsphere & PowerCLI builds.  Storage (NetApp Clustered Ontap 8.3.1p2) has remained the same (past/present).

Using $ESXCLI2=get-esxcli -v2 -vmhost ABCD with$ESXCLI2.storage.nfs.list.Invoke()|?{$_.volumename -match "1234"} |select host returns the correct IP/Host dataThe Datastores work fine, I just can't retrieve the remotehost data with get-datastore.

I've tried this on two different clients running the same PowerCLI build against two different Virtual Centers running the same build using two different storage arrays running the same build.  Same results of no remotehost data.

Anyone else noticed this?

Thanks

JoeA

Re: Compact mode installation fails on Post Deployment

Hi. I am facing exactly the same issue with VIO 3.0 and then with 3.1 after upgrade, in compact mode. Really need a fix - in a POC lab environment it's hard to get tons of vCPUS and RAM hence I am using the compact deployment model.

I have adjusted the VIO management node config (/opt/vmware/vio/etc/omjs.properties) to relax the requirements and all deployment works fine up to 98% or so when the deployment script tries to create a VM  under OpenStack/Project (f2d4ac6a851d4f4b902eb9eed718a60a)/Images (glance?).  I have already wasted days with this bug and can't find a logical explanation or any hints in the logs

The adjusted settings relax requirements on minimum count if controllers, LB, etc as well as on vMotion, DRS, etc. The controller VM and the compute VM are created just fine, can login to them, however the deployment fails with "Bootstrap failed" on both VMs.

In the vSphere client task pane I can see a "Deploy OVF" task failed. I see HTTPS connect errors, not sure what they are but the management server, the controller and the compute VM are all on same management vlan on the VDS and checked connectivity among them just fine.

Getting the logs with "viocli deployment getlogs" and searching for errors around the time the deployment was aborted I can see the errors in the nova and glance logs

How to get the cost of CPU, memory, storage using vRO

0
0

Hi,

I have couple of XaaS blueprints and I want to display the cost of provisioning similar to the ASD's blueprint. I was able to get the blueprint's cost by day and total cost, but I could not find any vRO classes to get the cost of each component such as CPU/memory/storage. The reason for that is I want to update on the fly the daily cost and total cost when the user change the number of CPU, memory...

Here is my code to get the daily and total cost:

// Input: vCACCAFE:CatalogItem

var host = vCACCAFEEntitiesFinder.getHostForEntity(catalogItem);

var items = vCACCAFEEntitiesFinder.findCatalogResources(host, catalogItem.name);

       System.log('Number items: ' + items.length);

for each (var i in items) {

    System.log("Id: " + i.id);

    System.log("Name: " + i.name);

    var resource = vCACCAFEEntitiesFinder.getCatalogResource(host, i.id);

    var resourceType = resource.getResourceTypeRef().getLabel();

    System.log("resource type: " + resourceType);

    System.log("resource Data: " + resource.getResourceData());

    System.log("resource lease: " + resource.getLeaseForDisplay().getAmount());

    var cost = resource.getCosts().getLeaseRate().getCost();

    System.log("resource cost: " + cost.amount + cost.currencyCode);

    var totalCost = resource.getTotalCost();

    System.log("resource total cost: " + totalCost.amount);

}

Does anybody know which vCACCAFE class I should use to get those info?

Thanks,

  - Huy

Command: -DeletePermanently fails.

Hello, this is my first post to the forum. I have Windows 2008 Svr and am running vCenter 5.5  I am wanting to run a script to delete clones. I know the syntax is correct because I used the same script before and it worked but that wa before I had to reimage the system. I have installed the VIToolkit and loaded the "Import System Modules" when launching the powershell.

Here is the command that fails:

Get-VM DR-Xymon| Remove-VM -DeletePermanently -Confirm:$false

I have also tried the following syntax but get the same message.

Remove-VM -VM DR-Xymon -DeletePermanently -Confirm:$false

ERROR:

Remove-VM: A parameter cannot be found that matches parameter name 'DeletePermanently'.
At C:\delete.ps1:2 char:42

+Get-VM DR-Xymon| Remove-VM -DeletePermanently <<<< -Confirm:$false

     +CategoryInfo         :InvalidArgument: (:) [Remove-VM], ParameterBindingException

     +FullyQualifiedErrorId :NameParameterNotFound,VMWare.WimAutomation.Commands.RemoveVM

I have tried to run this script both as Admin and as a domain admin and get the same error. I doubt the command is deprecated and that I must be missing something simple. Any help would be fantastic!

Adding certificate - do I need maintenance mode to be enabled?

Hi,

I am working on deploying a custom SSL certificate (from a Microsoft CA in the network) to my ESXi host, but it seems like I need to put the host into maintenance mode, which means shutting all the vms off 9I have just the one host as this is for a lab).

Is this really necessary?

Thanks!

New VMmark 2.5.2 patch released

0
0

There is a new patch to the VMmark reporter: "VMmark 2.5.2 Update for vSphere 6 (.zip) *Required as of March 2017*". This is an update to the reporter scripts only and does not require modification to the harness. Further instructions on applying the patch are included in the patch’s Readme.txt.

All VMmark submissions going forward will need to have applied "VMmark 2.5.2 Update for vSphere 6". We anticipate no additional changes for VMmark 2.5.x as we target it to be End of Life in mid 2017.

For new VMmark 2 installations, this patch supersedes the previous VMmark 2.5.2 Update for vSphere 6 released in March 2015.

Thank you very much,

Rebecca

Are you using PowerCLI 6.5R1?

Still seems to be working for me.

Did you already try stopping/starting your PowerCLI session?

Update:  I passed the 2V0-621 today!  Now I just have to sit in on the required course. Never reading any material on VCP, I feel that Mastering vSphere had real world scenario. I read through OCG twice and Mastering once. I can honestly say that they complemented each other one they each helped me understand what I was not grasping from the other book. I recommend them both.

.   i also not really able to follow Vmwares Mind in the Moment.    they announced HTML5  and ment that c# not necessary anymore because HTML5 is fully working.

Aha. And because it's fully working  6.5  Configured  with Flash + HTML5 next together and currently Flings is 1.16.0 (Hostclient)  and 3.7.0 (Vsphere HTML5 Webclient). why not also c# next to it as long it's not fully implemented??

As long as a Product is not fully finished  the c# should stay definitly.  6.5  i feal like a non-finished product. flings changing very often.

i couldn't deploy 6.5 - as everyone would be angry.  so need to stay with 6.0

Every Admin will confirm that Tasks over   Web is more slow then for c#.  if the same View would be handled like on c# Client > then it's a more better way to go with.

Once changing minds and maintaining again C#  > would be good to provide also an x64 Version of it

Reserve Memory for a VM

How do you reserve memory for a VM using the vSphere Automation SDK for Python?

Here is how it can be done using pyvmomi:

mem_reserve = vm.config.hardware.memoryMB

spec = vim.vm.ConfigSpec()

spec.memoryAllocation = vim.ResourceAllocationInfo(reservation=mem_reserve)

spec.memoryReservationLockedToMax = True
task = vm.Reconfigure(spec)

Re: Eval Guest OS Questions: Windows 7 Audio Distortion, No 3D Support for Windows XP, No Windows 98...? (Workstation Pro 12.5.x)

Thank you, sir!  Coming from VirtualBox, there are obviously a great many things I have to learn.  I did not know you could regress the hardware compatibility, and going back to Workstation Pro 10.x did the trick for Windows XP.  As for the audio on Windows 7, my sound device is just onboard audio (RealTek ALC1220), and not USB.  As for Windows 98, it will not even let me begin the installation (when I try and regress the hardware compatibility, it just tells me that I need to have the VMare tools installed first, but since I cannot install in the first place... chicken and the egg?).  When I start the install from a bootable iso (or disk... it does the same thing), it gives me an error when it starts to read the install media, and points me to a log file... The big thing, however, was Windows XP, so once again, thank you!  Now I just need VMWare to offer another of their 25% off sales for Workstation, and I'm in business (I missed the last one)...

You cannot, it is a requirement.

You have to make sure you have the Reconfigure action entitlement for whatever business group and user account/group of which you are a member.
